الجرافيك IHCHR staff have been monitoring demonstrations across Iraq

Four people were killed and 130 were injured, some seriously, in clashes between security forces and demonstrators, the IHCHR said.

The Iraqi High Commission for Human Rights (IHCHR) monitored demonstrations in the Thi Qar governorate centre on 10-11 November 2019.

Four people were killed and 130 people were injured, some seriously, during the conflict between security forces and demonstrators.

IHCHR also documented the arbitrary arrest of 34 demonstrators, as well as the spread of demonstrators in the neighborhoods of Nasriya City and attempts to close government departments

The Commission condemns all forms of violence and the misuse of tear gas, sound bombs, Molotov cocktails, stones and sharp implements used by security forces and some demonstrators, which caused casualties on both sides of the conflict.

In addition, IHCHR calls on both parties to commit to and respect peaceful demonstrations and for demonstrators to cooperate with security forces to provide access to public facilities, schools, universities and government departments and ensure the provision of humanitarian services to citizens.
