The National Human Rights Commission of Mongolia, the Human Rights NGO Forum, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Justice and Home Affairs have collaborated to host a series of discussions on the Universal Periodic Review in four regions across the country.

The meetings are being held to listen to the experiences and opinions of regional communities, government agencies and NGOs, and to exchange information on current human rights issues.

This feedback will help shape a mid-term report on the implementation of UPR recommendations, which will be submitted to the Government of Mongolia.

This first regional discussion was held on 6 March 2018 in Zuunmod city of Tuv province, with 40 participants from government agencies and NGOs.

During the discussion, participants highlighted the need to improve gender awareness among high-level public officers and to foster among them a human rights-based approach to developing policies and programs.

Participants also urged action in the fight against the worst forms of child labour, such as child jockeys and children working in mining areas, and the importance of raising awareness among young people about the adverse consequences of drugs.

The discussion meetings are supported by the Open Society Forum and UPR-Info, an international NGO.
