The NHRC annual report also called for the introduction of mechanisms to settle disputes outside of courts so people can better exercise their rights.

The National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) has recommended the enactment of laws to regulate the duties of domestic workers in Qatar.

Domestic workers are not currently covered under Qatar's labour laws.

Further, the NHRC has called for the introduction of mechanisms to settle disputes outside of courts to allow people to better exercise their legal rights.

It has also sought the adoption of regulations for protection against domestic violence and to review the current family law, local Arabic daily Arrayah reported.

In addition, the NHRC's annual report called for more inspection visits to detention centres and to reduce the use of precautionary detention.

The report's recommendations also included the establishment of an NHRC office within the Public Prosecution headquarters to receive relevant complaints.

Public Prosecution employees should undergo intensive training on the implementation of the law to combat human trafficking, the report said.
