In cooperation with the Heartland Alliance International, staff from the Iraq High Commission for Human Rights (IHCHR) have completed training in the prevention of torture and ill-treatment.
Representatives from the ICHR's Reporting, Monitoring and Complaints teams undertook the training, held in Erbil in April 2019.
IHCHR member, Mr. Hemn Rashid Al-Bajalan said the training was vital to enhance and strengthen the capacity of the monitoring teams to observe human rights violations in prisons and detention centers.
The training covered a range of topics with regards to monitoring torture and enforced disappearances, as well receiving complaints and collecting evidence to hold perpetrators of the crime of torture to account, drawing on the Istanbul Protocol
for the effective investigation and documentation of torture.
