The Commission is supporting the provision of human rights education training and materials throughout schools and universities in Vietnam.

The Commission has entered into a three-year partnership with the Ho Chi Minh Academy of Politics (the Academy) to roll out human rights education training and materials throughout schools and universities in Vietnam.

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed after the Commission President Emeritus Professor Rosalind Croucher hosted a roundtable discussion with a delegation from the Academy, led by Academy President Professor Dr Nguyen Xuan Thang and a number of Australian experts.

The roundtable explored the challenges and opportunities for embedding human rights in education.

During her opening remarks, Professor Croucher noted that "human rights education is a vehicle for fostering strong human rights values in our community and creating a more equal, respectful and inclusive society."

"The Commission is delighted to partner with the Academy to further the common goal of promoting and protecting human rights in Vietnam through education," said Professor Croucher.

Under the Human Rights Education Partnership, the Commission will assist the Academy in its mandate to build the capacity of relevant Vietnamese government agencies and educational institutions to enhance the promotion and protection of human rights through education.

"The partnership is a significant milestone in our ongoing collaboration with Vietnam. It comes after 45 years of diplomatic relations and the successful technical cooperation program between the Commission and Vietnam, which spanned more than a decade," said Professor Croucher.

The Human Rights Education Partnership is supported by the Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
