The Peninsula reports that the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) will be included in a monitoring mechanism to ensure that foreign workers have access to adequate accommodation, in line with international standards.
The NHRC was previously involved in developing the guidelines for labour camps in Qatar, in partnership with representatives from various government ministries and agencies.
The monitoring process will aim to ensure that these guidelines are being upheld in practice. Any violations that are found will be punishable.
A representative of the Qatari government informed the United Nations Human Rights Council that NHRC will now form part of the system for monitoring labour camps.
