APF to co-host dialogue on digitalization, emerging technologies, and human rights

The APF, in collaboration with the National Human Rights Commission of Mongolia and the Geneva Academy, will hold a Virtual Dialogue on Digitalization, Emerging Technologies, and Human Rights on Thursday, 4 April, 2024. This event aims to facilitate an exchange of ideas and practices among APF members regarding technology-related human rights challenges.

Advances in digital technology offer both opportunities and risks for human rights. The rise of artificial intelligence (AI) in particular poses unique challenges, requiring consideration of its human rights impact and the establishment of regulations. The Delhi Declaration, adopted by APF members during the 28th Annual General Meeting, highlights the importance of responsible digital technology and AI use to foster inclusive human development and just societies, calling for a unified approach to address human rights concerns related to technological progress.

The Virtual Dialogue seeks to raise awareness and foster active engagement on these issues, providing a platform for discussing collective strategies. APF members and prospective members NHRIs are encouraged to participate, and to explore areas for potential collaboration.

The dialogue will also spotlight an upcoming event on Neurotechnologies and Human Rights, organised by the University of Sydney and the Geneva Academy, engaging Asia Pacific NHRIs and academic researchers in critical conversations on this topic.
