The APF has convened a high-level dialogue with the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) to exchange ideas on strengthening capacity across the organisation.

The dialogue, held online from 28-30 June, was an opportunity for the APF to engage with the leaders of the Commission on a range of key issues, including how to address challenges in preventing torture and conducting torture investigations.

Discussions also covered the regulation of compensation to victims of human rights violations relating to radicalisation, rehabilitation, and reintegration of returnees from areas of conflict, and issues relating to religious extremism.

"The APF's high-level dialogues encourage NHRI leaders to discuss their priorities and share ideas with their peers on how to strengthen the protection of human rights within their country," said Pip Dargan, APF Principal Adviser, Capacity Assessments and International Engagement.

"It was great to meet with the Maldives Commission’s leaders to discuss issues of current importance and to share information about the APF’s support to NHRIs with the accreditation process," she said.

The High-Level Dialogue was facilitated by APF Principal Adviser, Capacity Assessments and International Engagement, Pip Dargan and APF Expert NHRI Consultant Rosslyn Noonan.

Also representing the APF were former Commissioner of the Commission on Human Rights of the Philippines, Karen Gomez-Dumpit, and former Chair of the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia, Jerald Joseph.
