The workshop examined the progress that had been made to advance the rights of workers, as well as areas where further changes are needed.

The National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) has held a workshop bringing together representatives from government and civil society to examine the status of workers' rights in Qatar.

The workshop discussed the international and regional mechanisms that protect workers' rights and reaffirmed the important role of NGOs and civil society groups in advocating for workers' rights.

The workshop also reviewed the current situation of workers' rights in Qatar, drawing on recent reports of the NHRC, as well as progress and shortcomings in policies and procedures relating to workers' rights.

Dr Mohamed Saif al-Kuwari, NHRC member, said that recent amendments to laws related to the rights and conditions of workers had helped strengthen guarantees of decent work, including in relation to workers' safety and health care.

He also stressed that the NHRC would continue its efforts to monitor the situation of workers in Qatar so that these legal rights were reflected in practice.
