National Human Rights Institution (NHRI) leaders in West Asia now have access to a valuable resource with the translation of the APF manual, NHRI Leadership: An Introductory Guide, into Arabic.

Due to their unique nature, leading an NHRI is a significant task. New leaders may face challenges understanding their new roles and the complex and multi-faceted work of NHRIs, while experienced leaders will regularly encounter new issues and hurdles.

The guide aims to assist NHRI leaders in providing a resource to help navigate leadership within these important institutions. It outlines the roles and responsibilities of NHRI leaders, including those who head the institution, those appointed to statutory positions, senior executive officers (SEOs) and other senior staff.

At the APF, we are pleased to release our leadership guide in Arabic to expand our members accessibility to resources and ensuring support for NHRI leaders across our diverse region

Pip Dargan, Principal Adviser, APF Leadership Services

The guide also addresses a range of topics including the structure of NHRIs; the necessary legal criteria; compliance with the Paris Principles; and the five critical components for effective NHRI leadership.

Providing services to NHRI leaders is one of the core functions of the APF. In producing the guide, the APF continues its work to strengthen the capacity and effectiveness of NHRIs in promoting and protecting human rights.

Download the guide, now available in Arabic, English and Russian, here.
