Strengthening online learning and collaboration

The APF will bolster its online program of learning and collaboration to support the work of national human rights institutions (NHRIs) during the COVID-19 pandemic.

This will include offering resources and guidance on:

• Strategic planning for NHRIs
• Monitoring, evaluation and learning frameworks for NHRIs
• Conducting effective human rights investigations
• Understanding the role and functions of NHRIs.

"The reality of the current travel restrictions means we need to strengthen opportunities for online learning and collaboration with and between staff of NHRIs," said Kate Turner-Mann, APF Manager of Capacity Development.

However, Ms Tuner-Mann stressed the APF's online learning program would respond to feedback provided by member institutions.

"We will make sure that our approach is appropriate, practical, flexible and accessible, and that it takes into account the challenges and restrictions that NHRI staff face."

Ms Tuner-Mann also said the APF will provide additional support for its professional networks.

This includes convening an expanded Facilitators and Education Network, in addition to online support for the Senior Executive Officers Network and for the Communications Network.

"It is inspiring to see the work done by APF members to uphold human rights principles during the COVID-19 pandemic," she said.

"Our role is to provide practical support so that NHRI staff can access the information they need, develop their skills and share ideas and good practice with their colleagues across the region."
