Providing advice and expertise

Providing advice

National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) are crucial in holding governments accountable for their human rights obligations.

We are committed to supporting the establishment and strengthening of independent NHRIs across the Asia Pacific, ensuring they comply with the Paris Principles, the international standards for NHRIs.

We provide specialised advice and expertise to our members, governments, civil society and other groups on:

  • Legislation to establish or re-establish NHRIs
  • Legislative amendments to strengthen existing NHRIs
  • International accreditation of NHRIs including dedicated support for our members
  • Comparative analysis of legislative good practice

We also assist NHRIs in strengthening their operational capacity. Our services include support with strategic planning, monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning (MEAL), and the integration of gender equality into organisational policies and practices.
